Not Alone

I am not alone in here

There is another that I speak to regularly and at length.

I find myself,

Conversing with the other when I least expect it.

I am posing a question, I am filing a complaint, I am pointing a finger.

That’s when I realize, I am not alone.

I am intimately working out a problem with someone I know I can count on,

I can trust the other to weigh the issues seriously and honestly,

We respect each other and after careful deliberation, we come to a conclusion.

I don’t know what I’d do without that relationship.

I also don’t know who it is.

This has been the topic of our most recent conversation.

Reality

Reality

It’s so empty in the morning that I wonder who I am

Quiet, after all that noise and fierce determination

Nothing seems real and time isn’t moving

I open my mouth and smell the anger

Of leftover resentment and stagnant fear

It’s Sunday morning and nothing matters

Except I’m breathing and there’s no disgrace

No remedy for the sad discomfort

No cure for this unrelenting malady

I am pure and alive with no apology

I am what I am and though I feel weak

What I am has beauty and strength

I am eternal, I am immortal, I am infinite.

I

I’m breathing better now that fewer bodies live.

My heart has room to beat a bit, there’s more open air to give.

It’s getting so much calmer since some souls have swept away.

And now I see the clear wide sky of yet another day.

Melting flesh has singed away the fraying outer skin.

And opened up a passage way for my own oxygen.

Selfishly I feed on grace so freely offered up.

And graze on grasses so alive from natures barren cup.

Take my hand and walk away

It’s time to see the world sway

Let go of turmoil in your head

No need to harbor so much dread

Take my hand we leave this day

We only pause to smile and say

To and from yourself I lead

From and to, although you plead

For safety and for comfort

To and from yourself we go

Each others heart we know

There is no gap between our hands

There is no there, no distant lands

Now alone and only now

No need of knowing how

Take my hand and walk away

There’s time to watch the world sway

Your life begins right now,

This second starts your chance,

To create yourself the way you want,

It doesn’t have to follow,

The dreams you had before,

You never have to remember which way you were going,

No need to be right,

Just be, right now!
